Partner Spotlight: Local Government Commission (LGC)

The Local Government Commission has helped elected officials and other local leaders create livable communities for over 35 years and is uniquely positioned to serve local governments.

Project Goal

WaterNow Alliance is currently working with LGC to create The Water-Energy Community Action Network—San Joaquin Valley (WE CAN—SJV), a pilot program designed to reduce outdoor water use by assisting homeowners in disadvantaged communities to overcome the burden of high up-front costs of replacing water-thirsty lawns with drought-tolerant landscapes. The Program has three major components: Public Engagement, Landscape Upgrade Rebates, and Job Training.

How we partner with the Local Government Commission

The Local Government Commission has a robust team on the ground and is engaged at the community level. With their wide network of locally elected officials and partner organizations they are able to organize and engage landscapers, city and utility employees and volunteers to provide worthwhile, affordable job training and resources that will help local businesses be more resilient in the face of drought and climate change.

As the only Roving-Professional Certification Organization, WaterNow Alliance is able to offer the WaterSense EPA Qualified Water Efficient Landscaper Certification to professionals anywhere in California, and with it experienced trainers, in-depth organizational knowledge of water efficient landscapes and available technologies, rebate programs and a network of Professional Associations ready to help make climate appropriate landscapes the norm.
